Pylewell, Hampshire

Pylewell Park in Hampshire is an extensive estate comprising of pleasure grounds, parkland, farmland, coastland, and woodlands of great scenic beauty and historic interest. It is located on the Solent, within the New Forest National Park. A number of the estate’s rich wildlife habitats have been designated as Sites of Special Scientific Interest and the coastland falls into the Lymington Estuary Ramsar site.

We prepared a Heritage Landscape Management Plan to support the conservation and management of this nationally important designed landscape with seventeenth and early eighteenth century origins, overlaid with later developments including an early Japanese garden and the relicts of a World War Two airfield.

The management plan has informed a successful application for a Higher Level Stewardship agreement for the estate. We assisted with the preparation of the application and Farm Environment Plan, and are now helping with the implementation of management options and capital works including the restoration of a listed Japanese bridge. The stewardship agreement will help ensure the conservation of Pylewell’s archaeological, cultural, ecological and aesthetic significance in the future.
